How to choose OKVED industry codes for prospecting in Russia
OKVED (ОКВЭД) is the Russian classifier of economic activities. Every company lists one main code and any number of additional ones.
Main vs additional codes
Companies often register dozens of additional codes “just in case”. Filtering by the main code only gives a much more precise list.
How to choose
- Start from your best customers: look up their main codes by INN.
- Go one level up in the hierarchy (e.g. 46.4 instead of 46.45) if the list is too small.
- Combine with region, headcount and revenue.
Examples
| Segment | Codes |
|---|---|
| Wholesale | 46.* |
| Construction | 41.*, 42.*, 43.* |
| IT services | 62.* |
| Furniture manufacturing | 31.* |
